I am excited to share with you a recent discovery I made a couple of months ago. Boodywear Australia. (Visit boodywear.com) Boody Wear is bamboo fabric made into undergarments and lounge wear including panties, boxers, leggings, shirts, socks, etc. I love that I am starting to see more use of bamboo because of it’s ability to replenish itself quickly with no impact to the environment as well as its desirable characteristics as a product especially for underwear. Bamboo naturally has anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties so odors are less likely to happen plus it is hypo-allergenic so it is great for those who are sensitive. Also, the fabric breathes and has the ability to thermo-regulate meaning that it keeps a balanced temperature during warm and cold weather so it definitely can be used all year round!!
I bought my first pair about a month ago from a local health food store. I was looking at it because I was very interested in the product and a clerk within the store boasted it was the best underwear you’ll ever by. I believed her since I felt the fabric and whenever I buy something, especially undergarments, I am very practical and want something that isn’t going to fall apart after a few washes. Surprisingly it was soft considering the strength of bamboo and sturdy, which I loved because I’m not about frills. I usually buy a basic low cut bikini style undie and thong most of the time in black and I wear it for every occasion from lounge, work, fun, and outdoor/fitness. The fact that it breaths and regulates temperature showed that this could take me from lounge to working out and I don’t have to worry too much about odors from sweat because of it’s anti-microbial properties. And because bamboo is naturally anti-microbial it naturally deters pests and fungus leaving you with a pesticide and fungicide free fabric!! I believe that your crotch as well as armpits are the the two places with the most active sweat glands so it is impertinent to obtain products that can breath let alone fight bacteria while cotton does not. You can feel more confident through the day knowing that if you sweat often or get stuck in work out clothes longer than usual that the odor won’t worsen because of bacteria.
Going back to buying my first pair, I only bought one to make sure it was the size that I wanted and style that I wanted. I purchased the low cut bikini in black and couldn’t wait to wash it and try it on. It surpassed my expectations and was a satisfactory purchase. I went back to the store a few weeks later to purchase more of them but they had run out of my size and style. Fearing not, I went online and within moments I had purchased 5 more of the underwear including a 3/4 cropped legging for lounging and to wear for certain tunics and dresses. The only bad (it’s not even that bad) is that they have limited colors. I would’ve loved grey as one of the options however, right now you can only get it in black or white and for women pink is another option. Although it doesn’t mean that can’t change as the company grows.
I am truly looking forward to see what they come out with next.
Tips for washing and drying: I recommend that you use a sulfate-free detergent and wash by hand or put in a delicates bag and wash on gentle. Let air dry or dry in delicates bag on low heat. They dry fast so I feel that the less heat you use and the less intense washing you put it through you will definitely get the most out of each product in the long run. However, if you need to toss any of their garments, it is great to know that these products are also COMPOSTABLE!! :):):)
